We can’t think of a better time to release a list of the world’s top winter sun destinations, and we can’t think of an area better to top that list than the Riviera Maya. Our picture-perfect stretch of coastline, trendy towns and ancient archeological sites have been named top travel destinations numerous times, and we’re happy to announce that we’ve done it again.
Canada’s leading online travel agency, FlightNetwork.com, recently released their list of the Top 27 Winter Sun Destinations for 2017, and Tulum took home the top honor, coming in at No. 1. However, the happening seaside haven of Playa del Carmen didn’t trail far behind at No. 11.
How the List Works
It has been an honor for our two towns to be featured as some of the world’s top winter sun destinations, because of the time and effort the Flight Network team put into researching, and actually visiting, each destination. They gathered flight information, spoke with international tourism agencies, and analyzed currency and travel data to choose the destinations that not only give travelers a taste of summer in the winter months, but also offer the most bang for their buck.
Each destination featured on the list can be visited for a fraction of the cost of the same vacation last year. Right now, travelers can explore Tulum for 26-percent less than last year, or they can venture to Playa del Carmen for 27-percent less than 2016. However, we suggest that everyone experience all of the Riviera Maya region’s towns, beaches and must-visit sites.
Why Riviera Maya?
Planning a winter escape to the Riviera Maya is a no-brainer to us, but with so many warm-weather destinations throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and around the globe, it can be difficult to make a decision. However, while some destinations solely offer resorts and beaches, the Riviera Maya offers it all. From the bohemian-chic town of Tulum and its famed seaside archaeological site to the nightlife, turquoise water and sugary sands of Playa del Carmen and all of the postcard-worthy beaches and authentic Mexican towns in between, there’s simply no travel destination in the world like this one. Of course, the average winter temperatures, hovering between 23 and 25 degrees (73 and 77-degrees Fahrenheit) don’t hurt either.
Whether you’re in search of picture-perfect archaeological sites overlooking the sea, exciting nights on the town, fresh and authentic eats, nonstop adventure, or days spent lounging by an infinity pool, Riviera Maya is an ideal destination for every type of traveler.
